Following the Paths of Ancestors: Sanok County

The Skeiron team took part in a summer expedition as part of the "Following the Paths of Ancestors" project, initiated by the NGO "Vyrii." During the expedition, a virtual 3D tour was created of the villages and monuments of Sanok County (Poland). The tour consists of 20 aerial and panoramic shots, supplemented with interactive infographics: statistical data of the villages as of 1785 and 1939, marking of settlement boundaries according to 1938 maps, and highlighting of vanished villages and cultural heritage sites. Thanks to this, users can "travel" through the territories where Ukrainians once lived before the deportations of 1944–1947 and discover little-known pages of history.

Project Goals:

  • To document and promote the cultural heritage of Ukrainians who lived in the territory of modern-day southeastern Poland until the mid-20th century, and to make it accessible to a wide audience through modern technologies.

Key Project Stages:

  • Conduct a research expedition to the villages of Sanok County.

  • Perform photo and video documentation of existing and non-existent settlements.

  • Conduct aerial and 3D scanning of 20 sites.

  • Create a virtual tour with panoramas and interactive infographics.

  • Process archival maps and sources to mark the vanished villages.

  • Prepare and distribute a printed and online guide titled "Following the Paths of Ancestors: Sanok County."
