Project Goal:
To support the digital transformation of the cultural heritage sector, accelerate its digital transition and increase its competitiveness through the use of innovative technologies. The project also aims to promote the concept of remote digital tourism.
Tasks Completed by the Team:
-
Digitized cultural heritage materials related to the historical figure Vitovt the Great using 3D technologies and Augmented Reality (AR).
-
Created digital models of historic buildings, such as Lutsk Castle and Kyiv Castle, reconstructing their appearance from the time of Vitovt the Great.
-
Implemented a virtual environment using Unreal Engine, allowing users to walk through streets of medieval towns and view period architecture.
-
Developed a website providing open access to the digitized objects and their descriptions.
-
Created an interactive map that links selected sites into a transnational tourist route called “Vitovt’s Belt.”
-
Developed a mobile application that enables users to experience augmented reality and “travel through time.”
Project Implementation:
Within the framework of the “Vitovt’s Belt” project, supported by the Creative Europe programme, the Skeiron team together with the Volyn Foundation and partners from Poland, Lithuania and Greece digitized cultural heritage sites associated with Vitovt the Great. The team produced 3D models of Lutsk Castle and Kyiv Castle, recreating their appearance in the 14th–15th centuries. Using Unreal Engine, a virtual space was developed where users can take virtual walks through medieval towns. The project delivered a publicly accessible website with the digitized objects and an interactive map that united these sites into a transnational tourist route. A mobile application with augmented reality features was also developed.
